Travelling is more than visiting all the ‘must-see’ spots in your guidebook. Traveling is something else entirely. While traveling to a new country, you are becoming one with the country and its people. You are submerging yourself in something that was previously unknown to you and that is where the beauty of traveling lies.
There are a few things you have to enjoy while traveling abroad. Your trip will essentially be incomplete lest you enjoy these 8 things that every country has to offer.
1. Historical Sites
Historical sites are something every state has in abundance. If you are traveling internationally, visiting historical sites should be on the top of your list. Be it the Great Pyramid of Giza, Machu Picchu, the Stonehenge or the Colosseum, visiting these historical places is a must. You won’t know the true meaning of enjoying a new culture until you do so.
2. Local Cuisine
Eating a lot of the authentic cuisine at your disposal is the Holy Grail of traveling. For once, your diet doesn’t matter. Neither does the fact that you have lost count of how many cheat days you have had. Irrespective of the fact that the only exercise you are getting is strolling from one restaurant to another, you need to eat as much as you can. Try each and everything of the amazing cuisine the country has to offer because you won’t experience the same authenticity anywhere else.
3. Do Everything
Wherever you are traveling, you are only there for a short time which is why it is important to do and try everything. If the opportunity to ride in a gondola presents itself, don’t turn it down. You will regret it. The point of traveling to a foreign country is to try something new so do just that. Visit every attraction, every famous gravesite. Soak up the beautiful architecture and sculpture around you. Take in everything, museums, art, views, and sites.
4. Take Pictures
Visiting a foreign country and all the great places you see is something you will remember for a long time after you leave. Hence, it is important to cherish every memory and take pictures. Be it food, landscapes, sites, even a sunset, take pictures of every beautiful thing. Not only does it cement the memory, but it also gives you something to look back to.
5. Try Different Things
The whole purpose of traveling is to try out different things. Half the fun of exploring a foreign country are the opportunities that are unique to the place. There are only one Big Ben, only one Eiffel Tower and only one street in the whole world with churros that melt on your tongue. Being in a foreign country is all about letting loose and experiencing new things. Hence, try tartare, go bungee jumping or cliff jumping, whatever rocks your boat. All of these memories are something you’ll look back to fondly.
6. People Watching
Exploring new things doesn’t mean packing a dozen activities into one day. You will only end up exhausted and won’t be able to enjoy everything fully. Take some time off and just soak in your surroundings. People watch, pick up their habits, and learn about the people that make up each beautiful culture.
7. Check Out The Nightlife
It doesn’t matter if you are a night owl or not. The energy that takes over a city at night is something else entirely. Though the nightlife is dependent on the place you are visiting, it generally consists of bars, live music, clubs or candlelit cafes with free-flowing alcohol. So get dressed and go have fun!
8. Go To Local Markets
A time comes when you need to back off the souvenir markets. There is only so much they can offer. Visit local markets and shops and buy special items that will really serve as mementos instead of only buying the made-for-tourists stuff.
